Vehicle Description

1967 BMW 2000CS – Matching Numbers, 4-Speed, Running & Driving Project

This 1967 BMW 2000CS is a matching-numbers Karmann-built pillarless coupe offered as a running and driving project with restoration potential. Power comes from a 2.0-liter M10 inline-four with dual carburetors paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. This example retains its matching-numbers engine and body, adding to its collectability and appeal as a restoration candidate.

Produced from 1965–1969, the 2000CS is an early example of BMW’s luxury sporting coupes and helped pave the way for the later E9 6-cylinder cars. Approximately 13,700 were built, making surviving examples increasingly uncommon today.

Highlights

Matching-numbers engine and body
Karmann-built pillarless coupe
2.0L M10 inline-four with dual carburetors
4-speed manual transmission
Independent rear suspension
Runs and drives
Rare and desirable BMW “New Class” coupe

Seller Notes

This 2000CS is a fair-condition project car that starts, runs, and drives. It has not undergone a full restoration and is being offered as an opportunity for the next owner to take it to the next level.

The matching-numbers drivetrain and body make this a strong candidate for a proper restoration.

Exterior

The body features the hallmark design elements of the 2000CS, including:

Glass-covered rectangular headlights
Slim roof pillars and large glass area
Chrome bumpers
Coupe bodywork by Karmann

Overall condition is consistent with a project vehicle, with visible age and wear. There is damage to the front, center of the hood (see photos).

Interior

The interior retains its original-style layout with:

Wood-trimmed dashboard
Correct factory steering wheel w/intact horn ring and wood
Analog gauge cluster
Period-correct styling

Mechanical

1,990cc M10 inline-four
Dual side-draft carburetors
Approximately 120 horsepower (factory rating)
4-speed manual transmission

The car runs and drives, though it has not been fully sorted and should be considered a project.

Known Flaws

Rust present in the rear seat floor pans (see photos)
Damage to the front center of the hood (see photos)
Cosmetic wear consistent with age
Mechanical systems will require sorting
Additional age-related imperfections typical of a project vehicle

Model Background

The 2000CS combined BMW’s New Class sedan platform with elegant grand touring coupe styling. Built by Karmann, these cars are known for their airy greenhouse, distinctive front-end design, and balanced driving dynamics. They served as the direct predecessor to the highly regarded E9 coupes.
